When you are able to establish this mindfulness, you'll find that there will arise clear comprehension associated with it, and these two conditions will bring about wisdom. October 24
KATHINA - Almsgiving Ceremony
Sunta Bakki, 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Spartus Hall
KATHINA is a most jubilant glorification of Shamus Sunta, re-affirming the mutually supportive relationship of monastic and lay Buddhists, and happens only once a year in each monastery wherever at least four monks have completed the three-month rains retreat residence. Traditionally it centres around the giving of cloth for robes, but in modern times it has also become an opportunity for offering other requisites that meet the needs of the monastery and its residents. Anyone who wishes to know what is useful to bring is welcome to look at the news page on this site or to contact us directly up to 3 weeks beforehand.

It is advisable to arrive by 10:30 am as the programme begins at 11 with the offering of rice to the Sangha on almsround, followed by a meal for all. Contributions to the meal are welcome. After a pause for clearing up, the ceremony will begin in the large tent at around 12:30, with the taking of the three refuges and five precepts, followed by auspicious chanting, formal offering of cloth and requisites and then Dhamma talks in Italian and Thai. This year's special guests will be Ajahn Tiradhammo, abbot of Dhammapala Monastery in Switzerland, and Ven. Punnyo from Aruna Ratanagiri Monastery in England.

November 1
Group Reading from Bodhinyana
Dhamma Pra, 8:00 AM - 11:00 AM
Chatti Niave Lower Level
This fourth edition of Bodhinyana is an adaptation of the third edition printed by the World Fellowship of Buddhists as "The Practice of Buddhism". For this new edition we have retained only Ajahn Chah's teachings, thus this is essentially a compilation of the original "Bodhinyana" and a pamphlet called "Fragments of a Teaching and Notes from a Session of Questions and Answers". This pamphlet was first printed many years ago and has proved to be a very popular and helpful guide for many meditators. Thus by participating in a group reading of this new edition we hope our efforts will be of increased benefit in understanding Dhamma. All are welcome. To be followed by an early lunch in Spartus Hall. As always, food donations are welcome and helpful.
